The competition was a tight one, with Stefanov leading tenuously at the start of the action. Stefanov was holding slightly under nine million chips whilst his close competitor, World Series of Poker Bracelet winner Roman Korenev being closely behind him with an 8.175million stack.

The two had to fend off t the tough competition against three other professional players namely Cesar Fuentes (7.55million chips), David Novosel (7.525 million chips), and Fabian Gumz (5.15 million chips) who were also in pursuit of the top two positions. The short stack at the table, Francis Anderson, still had a formidable stack of 2.175 million.

Despite the close competition, Stefanov managed to benefit from his good cards and a streak of good fortune. On the fourth hand of action, Anderson got his short stack to the centre and Stefanov looked him up. Anderson had in his hands K♦ Q♦ pre-flop, whilst Stefanov had pocket sevens in his hands. With a 5% chance of winning the hand, Stefanov was lucky to hit another seven and successfully sent Anderson to the rail in sixth place.

Although he in the lead, Stefanov never let his foot off the gas. With a J-10-2-10-6 in front of them, Novosel ended up on the short end of the stick. With Stefanov’s luck, he has drawn a J-10 ending up with two pairs and a full house. With Novosel’s turn up of K-6, his part of the competition concluded in third place.

Stefanov’s competition with Gumz begun with more than a 5:1 lead at 33.275 million to 6.225 million. However, Gumz subsequently proved that he is not an opponent to be taken for granted. It took 50 hands for Stefano to vanquish Gumz. Stafanov had in his hands A-2, which is much better tan Gumz’s Q-8 cards.

Whilst the competition nearly ended with an A-J-5, the two threw a Queen up on the turn. In the end, Gumz saw a ten instead of an eight of a Queen which was what he was looking for. With this, the title landed on Stefanov’s hands.

An Ace on the flop (A-J-5) nearly ended any drama, but the “poker gods” had to give a sweat by throwing a Queen up on the turn. Looking for another Queen or an eight to give him a critical double up, Gumz instead saw a ten on the river to give the title to Stefanov.

With the conclusion of the WPT festival in South Florida has now concluded and has gone off to their next destination in Bellagio, Las Vegas. The tournament has always been a favourite amongst professional looking for action around them, or for the amateurs waiting for an opportunity to shine on the big table.
